Sell what you make online in Norway

The rules depend on what you make. If you make food, cosmetics or ceramics for food, your business must be registered with the Norwegian Food Safety Authority (Mattilsynet) before you sell. You register for VAT once your sales pass NOK 50,000 in 12 months. Pick your trade to see the rules that apply to you and how to set up your shop.

  • Food: register with Mattilsynet, and show the labelling on the product page before purchase
  • VAT: 15% on food, 25% on most other things
  • Your shop must say who is selling: name, address, email and organisation number
  • People who buy online usually have 14 days to change their mind

Then from €25/mo excl. VAT. No lock-in, and we'll be in touch before your trial ends.

When your sales of goods and services subject to VAT pass NOK 50,000 within 12 months. You then register in the VAT Register (Merverdiavgiftsregisteret) and add VAT to your prices. The Norwegian Tax Administration explains how.
